The Filipino Spirit Contra Climate Change: We Rise As One

Nowadays, we are experiencing different types of climate change. Here in the Philippines, climate change has a big impact on us, include calamities like typhoons. It seems that our country is losing hope, because our rice crops, waterways, and natural resources are being affected, not only us people. But, our country Philippines is known for being resilient, being strong when there are trials that comes our way. It's somewhat true that we have a strange way of solving life's problems. Maybe because of our cooperation, unity, and sacrifice for our fellow Filipinos.

It was not easy for us Filipinos to survive climate change, which we are still experiencing today. One of those affected by climate change are the provincial people whose livelihood is farming, including me. Their rice fields are experiencing drought due to the extremely hot weather from April to July. On the other hand, for fishermen, their daily lives are affected not only because of the typhoons they experience but also because of the increase in sea level. they may be overtaken by water in the future. In general, due to the location of the Philippines, the temperature that we endure every day is gradually increasing, which also results in negative effects on people. They can get heat stroke and pass out if they are over exposed to the sun.

Furthermore, when it comes to typhoons, Filipinos are able to survive by being prepared and sometimes even get to enjoy high flood levels, especially in low-lying areas such as Manila. And the reason for the high level of flooding is the improper disposal and management of wastes. Canal channels get blocked which is the effect of flooding when storms pass through. But sometimes, there are places that are really damaged by calamities, such as typhoons, earthquakes, and even landslides.

In summary, we are surviving climate change because of our unity, cooperation, and sacrifice. And, we don't even notice that we are overcoming these trials. Because without unity, we will not be able to recover from the effects of climate change. And until now, we are still doing our best to reduce its impact on us. That's the only thing we can do because we can't bring back the old world.

National Children's Month Celebration: "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines"

November marks a significant time in the Philippines as the nation celebrates the 32nd National Children’s Month, an event dedicated to safeguarding and uplifting the rights of Filipino children. This year’s theme, “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines,” emphasizes the pressing need to address violence against children and to foster safe and nurturing environments for them across the country.

One of the core objectives of this celebration is to raise public awareness about the prevalence of child abuse and neglect, which often go unreported. National Children’s Month aims to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and tools to protect their children through information campaigns, advocacy, and family-oriented activities.

Families play a pivotal role in this initiative by creating supportive home environments that nurture children’s physical, mental, and emotional growth. By focusing on family education and child rights, the movement promotes stronger family bonds, trust, and resilience against harmful practices and abusive behaviors.

Throughout the month, various activities are organized to encourage community participation. These include seminars, workshops, and forums that discuss child protection, mental health, and community safety issues. Schools and local government units (LGUs) often host events, providing an opportunity for children and adults alike to learn about the importance of a violence-free environment.

To sum it all up, this program helps to address violence against children, ensuring their safety, their human rights, and building a brighter future for them. Bringing joy, love and protection to children.

Environment Month: Always Keep it Clean!

Based on Time Now News, the biggest threat that we are facing today is the destruction of ecosystems. According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, up to 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 per cent since 2000 – without urgent action, droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world's population by 2050.
According to United Nations, "Land restoration is a key pillar of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, which is critical to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. This is why World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land."

Planting

One of the solutions to maintain good nature and a good environment is planting. It's a simple task and it certainly brings joy to us after doing it, because of the feeling that we have helped our environment. And also it improves our muscles, like being stretched.

Cleaning the backyard and segregating garbage

I learned proper and good cleaning in our school. I do this in our house to maintain the cleanliness of our environment, and to make it look good to the people who visit our house. I also learned how to segregate waste because it will make it easier to dispose of waste and also for those of us who can do recycling materials activity.

Participating in Clean-up Drive activity

By participating in the clean-up drive activity within our school, we can help the environment to be clean, Especially the school's environment. Furthermore ,lota of waste comes from our campus because of the foods we consume that leave behind plastic wrappings and plastic bottles. Like me, who also participates in the clean-up drive as a lady scout, it is comforting because I am able to reduce the problem of our school, the problem of improper garbage disposal.

Joining Coastal Clean-up

Attending coastal clean-up was such an amazing experience for me because while cleaning and picking up trash, we could see the beautiful waves of the seashore. It is important that we maintain the cleanliness of our beaches because fishes can die if the ocean is polluted, it is our responsibility to clean it because fishing is one of our livelihoods as Filipinos.

 Reflection

his first quarter, I learned a lot, not only in new lessons but also life lessons. When it comes to ICT, I discovered that it is possible to make daily posts that are a diary here on the internet. Because me, I like that I can go back to all the things  and memories that happen in a day, so it's amazing to know about the online diary. Furthermore, my knowledge of the internet has expanded even more because of the things I found fun to do with my gadgets, not just playing games every day. I find it interesting to know about when the internet was invented, who developed the internet and so on. because there would be no internet today without the brilliant inventors of the 1900's

I had a hard time understanding our other lessons in pre-calculus, especially the last topics. Because the work and schedules that happened at school increased, I didn't pay much attention to them. Also, I was kind of nervous when I found out that we will be using computers in the first quarter because I don't know much about using a laptop or computer.

I solved these problems in a way that I ask for assistance and help from my classmates so that I would not be left behind about those difficult lessons. And because of our ICT teacher's good teaching, I was able to understand and keep up with the use of the computer. I solved these problems because i want to be included on the with honor's list for the first quarter.

Moving on, I will be more active next quarter so that I can avoid facing tests regarding my understanding of the lessons. And so that next time I will be the one to teach my classmates when they can't understand our lessons in Pre-calculus. Not only in this subject but in all subjects. Moreover, I will practice more about using the computer so that I will not have difficulty in the next activities that our ICT teacher will do in the next few days.

 Together 4 Teachers

in the past few days, October 4, 2024, we celebrated teacher's day. On that day, there was a parade in our school showing gratitude to the teachers. Then we gave gifts to the teachers handling our section.  And of course, surprising our dear classroom adviser. That day became one of the memorable day as we went to see our teacher's reactions in giving them their gifts and our simple gratitude in giving us lessons in life even if this school year just began.

We should thank not only the teachers we know, but all teachers around the world. All the successful and famous people we know today such as doctors, artists and others also studied in a school whose teachers broadened their minds which brought them a bright future. No one else can give us intelligence but only teachers. Other than our parents, who taught us good manners, the teachers paid more attention to it so that we grow up and develop with self-discipline, respect for others, and kindness. We should listen when our teacher teaches because they give their strength and confidence so that we can learn from what they teach and so that we can put them into practice. We should think about their feelings when we don't listen when they speak in front of the class, will they be disappointed or will they be proud of us. we need to show them that we students will be the future of our country, that we still carry what they taught us.

I hope we appreciate our teachers, because they are with us in our growth, in shaping our lives. So on teacher's day, let's say "happy teacher's day Ma'am, Sir.", because it also serves as a simple thank you to them for teaching us. All their patience in teaching is ours to reciprocate with kindness, because when we are inside the school they act as our parents, we are their responsibility. Remember, that we should not only be kind to them on teacher's day, but on all days and all the times.

"Towards a More Sufficient and Liberate Country"

In the present day, our country has been facing a lot of obstacles; natural disasters, politics, and lack of unity. In which leads our country- perhaps its downfall. As I write this content, natural disasters are the common conflict we've been experiencing. It's been unsafe for us as we can't do things we want to do, like going to school and elders going to do their job. These disasters has been constantly damaging our country. As students, we are also alarmed about our country's problem with garbage. According to what we have studied, most of the waste comes from our homes because of the products we use that leave us with their plastic packaging, which is later stored and becomes a lot of garbage.

There are many reasons why we are experiencing severe solid waste pollution, the increase of garbage in our country. One of the reasons for this is that the Philippines is overpopulated and there are a lot of scattered and invented products that we use, especially in today's time when we Filipinos use cellphones too much. we are easily enticed by the things we see on the internet, whether it's food or things that we don't really need and maybe even perishable things that end up in the trash. Next is the lack of discipline of the people. There will be no waste problem if people manage it properly. An additional problem now is that the segregation of types of waste, plastic, glassware, and perishables is no longer carried out. If we need to be deep or specific, let's go to the city streets. There is a lot of scattered garbage that is left on the side of the roads and people throwing their garbage everywhere can also cause clogging of waterways or canals.

As students, since elementary school we have been taught how to segregate garbage. The separation of plastics, glass and biodegradables. Until now we are still practicing these 3R's. this has a big impact because the youth are informed about mitigating our country's problem of solid waste pollution. I also participate in Clean Up Friday at our school and we go around the entire campus to see and clean up the mess that the students make. I have also participated in a Coastal Clean up, because it is important to keep our riverside clean because the cleanliness of our ocean may be affected. In addition to this, I also know about the recycling of things; such as making garden decorations using saved plastic bottles, making paper from paper products and even making creative things that keep us from spending money. Not only should the government take care of this problem, but we students can also help manage and reduce the problem of our town regarding garbage. We need to manage and give importance to waste disposal because we hold the future of our people, our country.
