Did You Receive Flowers on February 14?

Each and every people around the world celebrates this special day for they express their deep and warm love to someone. Giving flowers and chocolates, taking them to a nice place, eat and spend time together are just some of the way of showing your affection. But it's not about the gifts, it's the sincerity of making memories with them in a unique way.

3rd Quarter Thematic

Community-Based Research's Media Gallery: Photo Collage

In this photoblog, I created a photo collage that contains photos of us while doing our Community-Based Research. Our CBR is about the occupation of our area, farming. Here, we present how farming is helpful in our daily lives. Plus, the picture of the rice field  and the  farmer spreading the harvested crop were taken by me.

As the leader of our group, I struggled because not all of my group members helped and did nothing. Furthermore, our work on CBR was accelerated because we only got a simple topic, which is about implementing the farmer's technological needs for easier harvesting.

In conclusion, it was a fun and memorable experience as it was my first time doing CBR and it will definitely help me as a SHS student. I have learned a lot about doing web design and implementing CBR. Even though ours was simple, it delivered many lessons; unity, cooperation, dedication for the good of our constituents.

Reflection

Chapter 3: The Learning Discoveries I Gained

In this quarter I discovered many lessons. First, I learned how to make a simple website/web design taught by our ICT teacher. It will be very helpful as I will be able to use it in the years to come in my studies. As well as new html tags, we are still continuously recognizing the different tags because we have just studied them. My artistic skills have also been restored because of our subjects that involve arts; drawing, coloring, and being creative. Furthermore, at MAPEH we tried to make movie posters. It was comforting for me because my imagination and fantasy were used here.

We can't avoid life's trials, even if it's just simple things, we can still learn a good lesson there.  I showed this quarter being an irresponsible student because I didn't finish the work and get it done on time. My helping out late and waking up late also got worse. Because of this I was sometimes late to school.

I solved these problems by improving myself. I proved that I can overcome and solve my problems in my studies and that I am the only one capable of changing myself.

Moving on, I will keep learning from my mistakes as learning is a life-long lesson. I will now try to reduce unpleasant tasks and improve my own development.

Why Do Filipinos Also Celebrate Chinese New Year?

"Kung Hei Fat Choi": Celebrated by Filipinos

The Chinese New Year is said to be the most important and longest holiday celebrated in China. The celebration begins on the first day of the lunar calendar, so it is also called Lunar New Year, and it is considered the beginning of spring, so it is also called Spring Festival.

This is celebrated in the Philippines as a special non-working holiday which gave the opportunity to both Chinese-Filipinos and Filipinos in the country to enjoy the celebration. This became possible because of the Proclamation declared by President Benigno S. Aquino III, stating that this is "a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese-Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people". The Chinese culture in the Philippines had been recognized to be very influential in the country, as Filipinos are known to partake in the celebration by means of having Chinese Food, consulting Feng Shui experts for good luck, as well as reading their Chinese horoscope.

The tradition of giving Ang Pao, red envelopes containing money, is a cherished custom during Chinese New Year. In the Philippines, this practice has evolved to embrace the Filipino value of generosity. It's not just limited to family members but extends to friends and even strangers, reflecting the warmth and hospitality ingrained in Filipino culture. What makes Chinese New Year in the Philippines even more fascinating is the inclusive nature of the celebrations. Filipinos from various religious backgrounds participate in the festivities, transcending cultural and religious boundaries. It is a testament to the country's unique ability to weave diverse strands into a harmonious tapestry of celebration.

Overall, Pinoys are primarily due to the large and influential Chinese-Filipino community within the country, which has deeply integrated Chinese traditions into Filipino culture, making it a way to acknowledge their heritage and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.

Vigan City: Then and Now

The Unique Villa Fernandina

The city of Vigan is famous for its unique structure as it was formed during the Spanish colonial era. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the few Spanish colonial towns left in the Philippines whose old structures have mostly remained intact. In this blog you will discover what Vigan went through in the past to maintain the stability and peace of this town today.

It served as a center for Spanish political, religious, and commercial activities in the northern part of the Philippines. Former Philippine President Elpidio Quirino, the sixth president of the Philippines, was also born in Vigan, at the former location of the Provincial Jail where his father was a warden. The city of Vigan went through many tragedies back then. Also, many Ilocanos also died in their fight for the freedom of Vigan, including some of our heroes. Gabriela Silang is a great woman from Vigan. General Maj. Sakae Narioka, Belen Castillo, Soldier Takahashi and Adela are considered heroes who saved Vigan because their love saved the town we live in today. They helped to change the decision of those in the upper levels of the society which then became the way to avoid the bombardment of the Americans.

To go deeper, if we compare the situation of the city then and now, it has changed a lot. Vigan City is visited now by many tourists from different parts of the world. And, the Bigueños still maintain Calle Crisologo where they sell souvenirs and local products. The city continues to prosper because of the events that are happening especially now that the Vigan city festival is being celebrated. Vigan city today is full of fun, comfort, and memories because of the people who saved this town during the colonial period. Let's continue to appreciate and preserve it until we can pass it on to future generations.

New Year, Still Me?

New Year, Still Me?

New Year's resolution is known as something or reflection that you do to yourself to find out and review the undesirable things you have done and will motivate you to change, reflect, and not repeat them again for the next year.

For me, it seems like I don't have any habits that I want to change, but if I think about it carefully, there are and still are. Just like me being greedy against small things, I don't want to share things with others thinking that they might outdo me. I realized that it's hard to change this avidity behavior of mine because I'm used to being like that. But I know my limits depending on the situation. Next is my spending habits. As a K-pop fan, at first I wasn't really interested in buying and collecting their merch. But little by little I got the courage to try buying them. Until now, I still continue to buy albums. One by one, but because Christmas had just ended and I also received a little money as a gift, I didn't want to buy anything else but k-pop albums. So I gradually spent the money I had saved on ordering merch online. And that's when I started ordering more and more, I almost had no space to put them. I can't change this because my spending habits won't result in bad things for me, but will bring me joy every day. But, I also know when I shouldn't buy them because maybe the money I use will be needed for other more important things, or maybe it's an emergency.

My new year's resolution is that I will reduce and avoid being a sinner because it will not be good for me, it might ruin my future. And also by forcing myself to study hard even though I am having a hard time. I realize that sometimes we need to have fun because we only live once.

Christmas szn!

 Christmas Break, Here I Come💗!

We all know that the holiday season is the happiest part of the year. Here we can feel deep love, joy, and thanksgiving to the people close to our hearts. In this blog, I will share the things that happened last Christmas, on how I celebrate it.

At school, we also prepared a little party to celebrate the holiday season as a whole family. There were snacks and lunches that we prepared where we were sure that when we got home, we would not feel hungry because of the amount of food. Our classmates also played simple games so that at least, even on that day that was our last meeting together in the year 2024, we could feel the joy of each and every one. There was a lot of laughter, shouting, and singing that day. And above all, the happiest part of the party was the exchange of gifts. I was so happy when my name was called because I would finally receive the things I had written, hoped for, and desired that day. When I received the paper bag, I opened it and saw the gray hoodie and key chains, the things I had wanted to buy for a long time. I also won some cash prizes from the parlor games I participated in. Before going home, I said goodbye to my friends and left school happily.

In the following days, I attended the evening service to give importance to the birth of the Lord Jesus. By attending those nights, I thank God that I have reached Christmas healthy again, as well as my family.

And now, on the night of December 24, I helped my mother prepare our meals that night. I cooked the baked macaroni and mom made the grahams. We ate the meals we prepared with love. The next day we went to my father's family to celebrate Christmas as well. We left home before sunrise to arrive early, in Narvacan. And there, our relatives welcomed us and shared the simple gifts they had prepared for us. After snack time, we worked together to prepare what we would eat on the night of the 25th; There was longganisa, fish, hotdogs, lechon manok, grilled pork, and various sauces for the various dishes. Can you guess how we celebrate Christmas? That's right! We had a boodle fight, because there were many of us and this way we could feel the Christmas spirit more, and of course to share the dishes properly. We ate together, laughed out loud and felt the cold breeze touching our skin.

Christmas is truly the most memorable and happiest season of the year. So we should never ever waste the moment. Instead, we must appreciate and cherish it because this way our family is united together, brings joy to each other and feels the spirit of Christmas.
